Great article. I think the MSM undermines the message a little when they seem biased toward covering MAGA bad behavior more than the anti-Trump bad behavior. I think the MAGA crowd pointed that out during the 2020 riots as well. The MAGAs aren't playing fair for sure, but like your article alludes to, we have to be better at the anti-Trump messaging and actions.
Respect as a democratic value is respecting others’ human dignity and worth and protecting their rights. It’s not being polite and calm and not talking over people who are not acting in good faith. This civility is why we are here. These protests are not about communication and messaging. That was the election. People didn’t get the message clearly. These protests are about demonstrating strength in numbers. And making people uncomfortable because maintaining your comfort in the face of fascism requires compromising core democratic values; I’d rather sacrifice these “nice to haves” and put up the fight our democracy needs right now.
I completely agree with everything you wrote. Those of us organizing or participating in protests need to prepare in advance with some good stories and persuasive talking points.
